My son continues to blow my mind with just how much he is learning and how he’s able to apply his lessons to real life, even spiritual ones.
As a stay-at-home mom, I sometimes struggle with feelings of being unappreciated or undervalued. But God, in His grace, often reminds me that He sees and values my efforts, especially when He reveals profound truths through my children.
Recently, my children were playing together when my 2-year-old daughter, Emmah-Rose, started building with her favorite blocks. As usual, she stacked them high on a single column, and of course, they kept toppling over. She grew frustrated, but I figured she’d eventually learn that her foundation needed to be stronger.
That day, after several failed attempts and a few tears, I decided to step in.
“Emmah-Rose,” I said, “if you want your blocks to stay up, you need to make the foundation stronger. Use more blocks at the bottom to hold up the rest.”
As I began to show her, my 7-year-old son jumped in. “Mommy, that’s what I was saying!”
Curious to hear more of his thoughts, I handed him the floor and quickly grabbed my phone to record what he had to say. I’m so glad I did. Because what came next was a full-on object lesson—a sermon in its own right.
He said, “This is like a weak foundation,” as he demonstrated using a narrow stack of blocks. “So when it stands up, it falls down. But if the foundation is strong, like these,” he continued, adding multiple blocks at the base, “then it stays up.”
So I asked, “How does that relate to God?”
Without missing a beat, he replied, “God is our foundation. He is like a rock. Rocks are a good foundation. Let’s say these blocks are rocks, and this is sand,” he said, switching back and forth between block types. “If you build your house on sand,” he let the blocks fall—“this happens. But if you build it on the rock, and do it really good, it will stand strong.”
He concluded: “God is the rock. The rock is stronger than other stuff. So build your life on the rock, that is God.” Click the video to watch the video:

What started out as playtime turned into a powerful, Spirit-filled moment of truth.
As my son explained so well: God is our rock. Our firm foundation.
When we build our lives on Him, we can stand firm when the storms of life come. But if we build on anything else, anything weak or unstable, our foundation will crumble, like sand washed away by the tide.
The Bible says it perfectly in Matthew 7:24-27:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these words and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”
So I ask you, as I ask myself:
Is your foundation built on Christ?
Are you secured for the coming storms?
Beloved, a storm is coming soon so let us be prepared. Christ is our only hope, let us build on the rock, it is not too late.
With love and purpose,
