Flu Fighters in My Kitchen: Eucalyptus

Welcome back to Be Well Wednesday as we continue our series on Flu Fighters in My Home. Today’s focus is on eucalyptus; a soothing, fragrant remedy that has helped my family with the occasional sniffles.

Eucalyptus has been part of my life since childhood. Now, as a mother, it remains a staple in my cabinet. Whenever my little ones show signs of sniffles, I reach for a bottle of eucalyptus. I dab it on their nightwear, my daughter’s bonnet, and even their pillow. The gentle, friendly aroma fills the room, helping them rest more peacefully as their airways clear.

What It Does

Eucalyptus is known for its refreshing scent and healing properties. It:

  • Helps open nasal passages and ease breathing
  • Provides a calming effect that supports restful sleep
  • Acts as a natural decongestant, soothing cold and flu symptoms

Other Uses

Beyond sniffles, eucalyptus can be used in many ways:

  • Steam inhalation: Add a few drops to hot water, cover your head with a towel, and breathe deeply to clear congestion.
  • Massage oil: Dilute with a carrier oil and rub on the chest to ease tightness.
  • Home freshener: A few drops in a diffuser can purify the air and uplift the atmosphere.
  • Soothing baths: Add eucalyptus oil to warm bath water for relaxation and relief.

Reflection

Eucalyptus reminds us that nature provides gentle, powerful remedies right within reach.

Whether dabbed on a pillow or diffused in the air, it brings comfort, calm, and healing to the home.

Be well, be blessed.

With love and purpose,
Tomika Chance
