It’s the holidays, and for many of us it’s a time of deep joy as we slow down, gather together, and spend time with the people we love. Some will travel far, and for others this is the only time all year when the whole family is under one roof again.
But for many, this season is bittersweet. We may have lost loved ones this year or in years past, and their absence feels heavier during the holidays. Others are facing hardship, illness, homelessness, unemployment, or loneliness. Some don’t have the means to buy gifts. Some don’t have family to visit. Some are spending this season in a hospital bed.
Wherever you find yourself today, I want to bring a little cheer and remind you that the most meaningful gifts don’t require money. Here are five beautiful ways to enjoy the holidays without pressure:
- Love. Remember the true meaning of the season.
At the heart of Christmas is love; a gift that costs nothing and can be shared with anyone. Love makes people feel seen, valued, and like they belong. - Offer kindness.
Who says you need to buy gifts you can’t afford? Many of us already have more than enough. Instead, invite someone over for a meal, help a senior with groceries or cleaning, or simply offer your company. Kindness is a gift that lingers. - Feed the homeless.
Prepare a couple of plates on Christmas Day and share them with someone in need. There is always someone nearby who could use a warm meal and a reminder that they are not forgotten. - Donate from your heart.
A quick look through your closet might reveal coats, socks, shoes, or other items that could bless someone less fortunate. Someone is always in need, and giving what you already have costs nothing. - Share Jesus.
This is the greatest gift of all. If we say He is the reason for the season, then let’s share Him with those we meet. Jesus brings peace, hope, and belonging; gifts that transform lives in ways no wrapped present ever could.
Remember, Christmas isn’t about the snowman, the tree, or the gifts. It’s a sacred time to show love in every way, and most of all, to share Jesus.
Be well and be blessed.
With love and purpose,
