For a while now, I’ve known deep in my spirit that it was becoming necessary for me to step back into the working world. As much as I love being present with my children every single day, I didn’t want to shortchange them, or myself. I wanted to fully cater to their needs, support our household, and still honor my own goals, identity, and purpose.
Financially, staying home was a sacrifice. Emotionally, it was a blessing. But personally, I started to feel like I was disappearing. I was present for everyone else, but not present for myself. I felt unfulfilled, like parts of me were slowly fading away. I didn’t feel anchored in who I was as an individual, and that feeling grew heavier with time.
I didn’t choose to become a stay‑at‑home mom, it happened because of circumstances, and I embraced it wholeheartedly. I completed my bachelor’s degree while home. I homeschooled my children. I poured into my family. I showed up every day with love and intention. And for a long time, I convinced myself that maybe this was my season and I needed to settle into it.
But after months and years of applying, praying, and trying to make peace with the idea that maybe this was where I was meant to stay… something in me shifted. I realized that although I loved being home, circumstances weren’t aligning, and my spirit wasn’t settled. I felt God nudging me gently but firmly: “You’re allowed to grow. You’re allowed to evolve. You’re allowed to step into more.”
I shared my desire to return to work with people close to me, including my church family. Two teachers told me about the NYC Teaching Fellows program. I felt a little anxiety about leaving my children, that tug-of-war only mothers truly understand but before I applied, I prayed a simple prayer:
“God, shut every door that isn’t for me, and open the one I’m meant to walk through.”
And He did.
This journey didn’t happen quickly. It didn’t happen easily. It didn’t happen the way I imagined. But it happened with intention, alignment, and grace. It happened after years of sacrifice, reflection, and growth. It happened after I learned how to embrace motherhood without losing myself. It happened after I learned how to trust God with both my family and my future.
Now, I’m stepping into a new chapter, not just for my career, but for my identity, my purpose, and my children’s future. I’m stepping into teaching with humility, faith, and a heart ready to serve. I’m stepping into a calling that feels both familiar and brand new.
This is the beginning of my Teaching Journey.
And I’m grateful for every step that led me here.

Rerouted…. And that’s fine because I trust my captain.
Be well and be blessed.
With love and purpose,
