Summer Cooling’s/Drinking Water

Wow, how quickly time flies. Summer is almost over, can you believe it? We have only a few weeks left of this delightful weather then it is back to cool season. However, we plan to use what time we have let us roll right on into our Summer Cooling series. Now we have so many healthy options for juices and smoothies that we can drink to stay refreshed and nourished at the same time, especially on a hot day. Now ensuring that you consume healthy juices and smoothies is excellent, but there is a far better drink that properly hydrates the body, and that is water. It holds; water is life!

Water is critical to our body for several reasons. Consequently, we must drink an adequate amount of water daily to keep ourselves healthy both inside and out. Some of these benefits include:

  • removing waste from your body.
  • Regulating body temperature
  • helping your brain function.
  • It helps to protect and lubricate tissues, spinal cord, and joints.
  • It helps to excrete waste from the body.
  • It helps enhances physical performance.
  • It helps prevent constipation.
  • It aids in digestion.
  • It helps with the absorption of nutrients.
  • It helps with weight loss.
  • It helps to give you healthy glowing skin.
  •  Overall it prevents dehydration. 

How much water do you need?

Ensure that you drink half your body weight in ounces. For example, if you are, 100lbs then you divide this number by 2 to get the amount of water you need to drink daily (100/2=50). You should also increase your water intake if you exercise or live in a hotter region to avoid dehydration.

How to check if you are dehydrated?

Ways to assess if you are dehydrated include your thirst and the color of your urine. Dark or colored urine is a good indicator of dehydration. Pale or clear urine means proper hydration. Conversely, feeling thirsty indicates your body is not receiving adequate hydration. 

In general, water is vital to nearly all parts of your body. Therefore, drinking your correct number will help you maintain your current state and improve your health overall.
