The holidays are a great time to catch up with friends and family because otherwise we would have been busy with our day to day activities such as going to work, school or whatever else we have to get done. Most of the year, we do not see the persons we care about often enough, so if you are like me, you want to make the best of these between holidays. My family and I decided to stay home for July 4th and spend some much needed time together since we hardly have everyone together during the weekdays. I decided that I was going to put aside my daily chores and enjoy the moment with my family.
A little background into July 4th
The Fourth of July, or Independence Day or July 4th is a federal holiday in the United States. On July 2nd, 1776, Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the thirteen colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. Since then, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence from Britain, with festivities such as fireworks, parades, and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.
The day was relatively calm and relaxing. We had a little rain and though the weather forecast predicted it would rain, thankfully it did not; well, not so much. My two youngest and I enjoyed a bowl of delicious strawberries and blueberries for breakfast while we wait for hubby to come home so we could make dinner. I went ahead and prepared everything that we needed to make the process easier.

We had a Barbecue

We resorted to our deck in the evening and had a family barbecue. It was similar to traditional barbeque except that it was plantbased/vegan, and we made no hot dogs. My family is not very big on most roasted vegetables so we did not do that either. We had Beyond burgers, Jerked tofu, roasted corn, vegan cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. My husband was in-charge of the grill while my children and I listened and danced to some Jamaican gospel music. We had a grand time.

We took a walk in the park
After we had eaten and our stomachs were full, I quickly cleaned up before heading outside for a digestive walk in our local park. The evening was quiet, and the air was relatively cool. Surprisingly the park was not over crowded with people as most were still in the state park on the other side. We walked around until sunset and enjoyed the fresh, clean air and fireworks displays. However, they were not as extravagant as in past years but relatively okay. Next, we went home and retired for the rest of the evening.

Taking every opportunity to spend time with your family or enjoy life, in general, is essential. We can never be too busy with life because it passes by so quickly. I took some time to appreciate the freedom that we thoroughly enjoy today. It has not always been this way; many have shed their blood so we could have this. So remember to do good so that you can leave something for our future generation to remember and enjoy.
God bless.
