Life Update: A Season of Growth, Grief, and Grace

What started as a short break to focus on wrapping up a few things turned into days, weeks, and then months of silence here on the blog. My last post was on January 28th, and trust me—there was so much more to come. I couldn’t wait to share all that had been happening: my weight loss journey after pregnancy, life as a homeschooling and stay-at-home mom, a small business owner, a New York State Licensed Insurance Agent, a college student, and member of Healing of the Nation’s: Extending Your Life Naturally program.

Whew! Just writing that out made me realize how many hats I’ve been wearing!

As I neared the final weeks of my bachelor’s degree—a huge milestone and one long overdue—I decided to focus entirely on finishing strong. And by God’s grace, I did just that.

But in the midst of everything, something happened that I did not expect: the passing of someone very dear to me—the father of my eldest daughter. His death threw me into a grief I had never known. And just days before his funeral, his mother passed away as well, compounding the pain. It’s been a difficult and confusing time, but my faith in God has truly been my fortress. I don’t fully understand it all, but I trust that He does. His comfort is carrying me.

I’ll share more about these experiences in future posts, but for now, here’s a quick overview of what’s been going on in my world:

Weight Loss Journey

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve finally lost all the weight I gained during pregnancy! The journey took longer than expected, but I’m stronger for it—physically and mentally. I believe God used this experience to teach me patience and perseverance, helping me build lasting habits and empathy for others on similar paths. I now better understand the struggles of lifestyle change, and I’m passionate about supporting others through theirs.

Achieving My Bachelor’s Degree

After more than a decade of starts and stops, I submitted my final two papers in March for my Bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration—and I’ll be graduating Summa Cum Laude on May 4th! 🙌🏽 What a journey it’s been, and I truly give God all the glory. I couldn’t have done this without Him.

Stay-at-Home & Homeschooling Mom Life

Being home with my children and homeschooling my son has been a blessing. It’s not always easy, and there are parts of the experience I can’t talk about openly, but I’m thankful for the chance to nurture and guide my children up close. It’s a gift I don’t take for granted.

Licensed Insurance Agent

I finally did it—I became a New York State Licensed Insurance Agent! After much hesitation, I took the leap, passed the exam, and now I’m using this platform to advocate for proper financial planning. The sudden loss of my daughter’s father at just 43 years old opened my eyes even more to the importance of financial preparedness, especially within the Black community.

Healing of the Nation’s Ministry

I’m still actively involved in the Healing of the Nation’s: Extending Your Life Naturally program, and it continues to be such a fulfilling part of my life. I’m learning and growing so much as I share my passion for health and faith with others. I truly believe this is a calling, and I’m praying for greater impact as I move forward.

Small Business Pause & Rebrand

My small business hasn’t been performing as I had hoped, due to challenges like financial strain and marketing gaps. I’ve decided to step back, re-evaluate, and rebrand before relaunching. I know in time, it will become everything God intended it to be.

Returning to the Workforce

After much reflection, I’ve decided it’s time to re-enter the workforce. I’m actively job hunting and trusting God to open the right doors—opportunities that will allow me to serve, grow, and still be present for my family and faith. Homeschooling may not be possible moving forward, but I trust that God will provide and guide every decision.

To all my readers, I hope life has been kind to you and that you’re experiencing God’s goodness in every season. Thank you for sticking with me. I’m excited to get back to sharing faith, wellness, and lifestyle inspiration through this platform. With the right tools, education, and community support, I truly believe we can help turn the tide against preventable illness and live healthier, more meaningful lives.

Stay tuned—and stay blessed!

With love and purpose,
Tomika Chance
