Hypertension, commonly called high blood pressure is becoming an ever‑rising concern. I’ve honestly lost count of how many people I know who are living with it. In some families, several members are affected at the same time. It’s a reminder that our daily habits, stress levels, and even our family history can shape our health more than we realize.
“A heart at peace gives life to the body…” Proverbs 14:30 (NIV).
Before I share today’s tea, here’s a simple breakdown of what hypertension actually is.
What Is Hypertension?
Hypertension occurs when the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries stays higher than it should over time. Your heart works constantly, so when that pressure is elevated, it places extra strain on the heart and blood vessels.
General Blood Pressure Categories
- Normal blood pressure:
Systolic less than 120 and diastolic less than 80
(Often written as “less than 120/80”) - Elevated blood pressure:
Systolic 120–129 and diastolic less than 80 - High blood pressure (Hypertension):
Systolic 130 or higher or diastolic 80 or higher
These numbers help us to understand where we fall, but only a healthcare professional can interpret someone’s personal readings.
How Does Blood Pressure Become High?
Many factors can contribute, including:
- Long‑term stress
- Diets high in salt, processed foods, or unhealthy fats
- Lack of physical activity
- Smoking or excessive alcohol use
- Poor sleep
- Family history
- Certain health conditions

It is important to remember that lifestyle plays a major role, which is why small, consistent changes such as adding supportive natural whole foods can make a meaningful difference.
