I love beets. I love to juice them, slice them into a salad, or enjoy them raw. Cooked beets? If that’s your thing, that’s beautiful too. My children especially love how beet juice stains their teeth and lips; it’s their little moment of fun every time we make it.

But here’s what I love most: beets remind me that little can still be powerful. Have you ever noticed that beets don’t contain much juice, yet whatever little they give takes over everything? Even the smallest drop leaves a mark. Little but tallawah.
It’s a reminder that even when your efforts feel small, unseen, or insignificant, they can still create major impact. Keep doing good. Keep sowing seeds. Keep showing up.
Jesus Himself taught this principle when He said:
“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.” Matthew 17:20
A little faith. A little obedience. A little consistency. God can multiply it.
Why Are Beets So Red, Though?
Beets are deeply red because they’re built around one of the most intense natural pigments in the plant world: betalains, especially betacyanins. These pigments are so concentrated that even a tiny amount can stain your hands, your cutting board, your clothes, your urine and yes, your lips!
A few fun facts:
- Betanin, the main pigment, gives beets their signature ruby-magenta glow.
- The pigment is water-soluble, which is why it spreads so easily when juiced or cut.
- Beets evolved a unique pigment pathway which is different from berries or red cabbage, making its red deeper, earthier, and more vibrant.
- The color is also heat- and pH-sensitive, which is why lemon juice can make beet red even brighter.
That deep color isn’t just pretty, it’s powerful.

Powerful Health Benefits of Beets
Beets are not only red, sweet, and delicious, they are loaded with nutrients that support whole-body wellness. Some of the major benefits include:
- Heart health support — thanks to natural nitrates that help improve blood flow.
- Anti-inflammatory properties — betalains help calm inflammation in the body.
- Liver support — beets assist with natural detoxification pathways.
- Rich in fiber — great for digestion and gut health.
- High in antioxidants — helping protect cells from damage.
- Iron, folate, potassium, and vitamin C — essential nutrients for energy, blood health, and immunity.
Little root. Big blessings.
